I never met Clayton Moore. He autographed a photo for me via the mail, but that's the closest I ever came to contacting him. I enjoy hearing stories of people who have met him and how he impacted their lives. If you are one of those people who had the good fortune to meet him, please share your story with us here.

I met Clayton Moore at the Memphis Film Festival in the early eighties. He wore dark sunglasses instead of the mask, because he was still under court order not to wear the mask. I obtained his autograph on two or three pictures and he was selling aluminum( I believe that's what they were made of)bullets for $20 apiece. I told him I had obtained 2 of those bullets when I went to see him at the fairgrounds in Florence, S.C.,but couldn't find them. He said I had lost $40. During his time there, I never saw him being rude to anyone, but he still seemed to have a great deal of anger about the mask being taken away which I can understand. Still it was great meeting one of my all-time heroes and he still looked great. He should have had at least a cameo appearance in the 1981 Lone Ranger movie.
I know this is eight years late, but I just ahd to comment...I was one of those "about 50 kids" in line at the Lincoln Mall that Rich was commenting about...and I remember it well. I was four years old, and I had NO IDEA who this "Lone Ranger" guy was, but my parents made a huge deal about it. My dad had me stand in line, and he said to me, "Now, don't forget to tell him, 'I see you on TV.'" And I just thought, "Huh?? I've NEVER seen this guy in my life! Who is he and why am I here??" So I did what my dad told me...when it was my turn I walked up to the Lone Ranger and said, "I see you on TV." I'm sure he said something back but I don't remember what; it was probably something very nice. But he signed an autograph, and that was that, and I walked away extremely puzzled at why I was getting an autograph from that guy.
Anyhoo, years later (late '80s, early '90s) when I was cleaning out a junk drawer, I found the autograph from that day. He signed it "The Lone Ranger" and dated it. My thought was that it was just some guy in a Lone Ranger costume.
And it wound up in a garbage dump in Joliet, IL somewhere.
Only recently did I learn that it really was Clayton Moore.
