First look at new Lone Ranger movie toys

Last weekend Walt Disney held its annual Disney Trading event at Epcot. There, attendees got their first look at a design for Tonto and Lone Ranger Vinylmation toys. It is the first look the public has had at any merchandise related to the new Lone Ranger movie now in production.The toys are scheduled to reach stores in March.
The movie stars Johnny Depp at Tonto and Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 3, 2013.

Lone Ranger book submissions needed

For those who thought “The Lone Ranger, Tonto and Me” book project had ridden off into the sunset, think again. The book is back on track and in need of your help. We are seeking stories about how you, the fan, have been affected by your interest in The Lone Ranger. This book is a kind of “Chicken Soup for the Lone Ranger Soul” if you will. We want to share your stories of how being a fan of the masked man shaped your life. If you have stories of interactions with the many actors who have played the parts of The Lone Ranger and Tonto, we want to hear about them. Please include any photos you feel might help tell your story or let people know who you are (mug shot). Most of the early submissions for the book vanished a couple years ago in a computer crash. We still have the stories from those who have submitted since then or sent their information by postal mail. Please feel free to verify by email that we have your submission. The deadline is November 30, 2012.

Johnny Depp shakes hands with Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly. Entertainment Tonight News recently reported on the visit to the set of The Lone Ranger by Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly and Vice President Rex Lee Jim. They met with the stars, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, and presented them with four Pendleton blankets as a good-will gesture on behalf of the Navajo Nation.

Another look at Johnny Depp as Tonto in The Lone Ranger

This just in from Bada-- Digest: Thanks to the Cleric, who pointed me in the direction of this picture on Facebook. It's Dr. Gayle Dine'Chacon, Surgeon General of the Navajo Nation, posing with Johnny Depp in his Tonto costume on the set of The Lone Ranger. Interestingly he looks way less ridiculous here than he did in the first official still, but the poster made the joke that Dr. Dine'Chacon was 'called out to give medical attention to that crow on Johnny Depp's head.'

Variety reports that Matt O’Leary and Harry Treadaway will play members of Butch Cavendish’s gang, and Deadwood actors W. Earl Brown and Leon Rippy will play unspecified parts.

Principal photography starting

If all goes as planned, principal photography begins today (02-28-12) on The Lone Ranger.

Principal photography set to start on Lone Ranger

Principle photography on the long-awaited Lone Ranger movie will begin Feb. 28, a spokesperson for producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed. The movie stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger. It is directed by Gore Verbinski and will shoot through the summer in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Disney has scheduled it for release in May of 2013.

Fichtner replaces Yoakam as Cavendish

Disney has tapped William Fichtner to replace Dwight Yoakam as Butch Cavendish in The Lone Ranger. According to Deadline.com, Fichtner will play the bad guy that Yoakam was set to take on before the actor-singer dropped out Friday because of a scheduling conflict. Fichtner just completed filming Elysuim for Sony and MRC with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, as well as Phantom opposite Ed Harris and David Duchovny.

Cavendish's first victim

It looks like Lone Ranger bad guy Butch Cavendish has claimed his first victim -- the actor set to portray him in the new movie. Singer/actor Dwight Yoakam has bowed out of the villainous role siting scheduling conflicts. Here's hoping it doesn't hold up production too long to find is replacement.
